August 13 Travels, Changes, and Guts Several of you have asked in personal mails, "Where have you been?" Well, please don't take it personally! I feel like I've been in a cocoon since August 08...I will not go into details about it, but I've found it hard to write or focus on something specific! All my energies have gone towards my work...and I've felt like someone had died! Well, part of me did die! Then spring brought renewal...travels and surprises...and then summer approached with amazing gifts! First, I was invited to be in a story telling show in London after unknowingly telling the producer of the show one of my personal stories about "Guts"! We had met on a "jet setter site" called "A Small World", that I frequent once in a while. She wrote and asked if I would be interested in coming to London after sharing the first story. Later, I ended up sharing four more stories with her, telling three of them on stage! (I was chosen out of seven people to close to the show...probably since I'd traveled the farthest to be in the show.) Plus, I also shared the story about why I was there to begin with! That's a whole other story for another time...Anyway, every month has a different theme! If you're ever in London it is worth checking out: www.sparklondon.com/ The stories that I heard from the six other people were truly amazing! I'd love to do it again one day and have been invited to come back! In New York and Los Angeles there's something similar called "The Moth" www.themoth.org/ Second, after London, I took myself on my dream vacation to Barcelona, Spain. The place has always been number ONE on my "Bucket List"! First, I looked into renting my own apartment, but then I found a room for rent from someone who was "Gay Friendly"and thought, "I love my gays!" (Thinking of two of my best friends who are gay!) I ended up renting from these wonderful guys! They also had a gay room mate. The place was nice and clean and I truly felt at home living with them! One of them taught me how to cook two traditional Spanish meals...and the rest of the time they were never at home since they stayed at another place as well...and the room mate worked what seemed like 24/7. Basically, I ended up feeling like I had rented my own apartment for 25 days! While in Barcelona, I indulged and immersed myself in art, music, dance performances, and good food! I truly felt my spirit reviving and coming back to life again! There were many days where I just "let go" and just sat on the beach or in a Cafe and stared out into space or people watched! Yes, I must have looked like a 'space cadet'and I frankly didn't care!!! My mind, body, and soul needed a "time out!" Towards the end of my stay in Barcelona, I went to Mallorca. I happened to leave the day after the airport bombing. Thankful that it didn't happen the day I was leaving! (I saw nothing in the airport and security seemed normal!) I had not been to Mallorca in 25 years...and my companion, who joined me for this last part of my trip hadn't either. We had both been there, strangely enough, 25 years ago at the same time...but never met until now! After spending a day and night in Mallorca, we took the ferry to Menorca, where he had been before and had fallen in love with the place. We stayed in Mao, Menorca, at a lovely hotel filled with mostly British tourists and a few Spaniards. We were the only two "Americans"...and I am certain, I was the only Dane! It's been a year of changes, but I've been ready for them! Yesterday, I resigned from my job and gave my apartment notice that I am leaving at the end of this month! (I knew in my gut that I would be moving when I first leased my place for six months instead of for a full year!) Yes, I am moving in about 12 days from the State I've been living the past 12 years! It is the start of a whole new adventure for me! I'll continue working with children, but will be focusing more on writing and my art work! So there...now you know a bit about where I've been and what I am up to! Hope your summer has been wonderful! Comments (5)
